Corporations face-off at the M1 Corporate Netball Challenge 2015

Singapore, 14 November 2015 – The third M1 Corporate Netball Challenge (M1CNC) saw a great turnout of 47 corporations coming together in fierce competition for the title of M1CNC Champion under Competitive and Social categories.

In the Competitive category Deloitte took the title with a score of 7 to 5 against KPMG following a nail-biting match final to take home the top prize of S$1,500.

Under the Social category, with no cash prizes up for grabs, Standard Chartered Bank took first place with a score of 10 to 2 against BHP Billiton.

New Zealand netball legends Irene van Dyk, the most capped international player of all time, and Casey Kopua, the current Captain of the New Zealand national team, Silver Ferns, made an appearance at the M1CNC to meet participants and fans.

M1s-CEO-Karen-Kooi-presents-a-50000-cheque-to-MPAnother event highlight was the exhibition match between Members of Parliament comprising Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Community, Culture and Youth & Ministry of Finance & Deputy Government Whip, Dr Janil Puthucheary, Minister of State, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Communication and Information, Ms Low Yen Ling, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Ms Jessica Tan, Member of Parliament, and M1 Senior Management.

M1 was represented by Mr Lee Kok Chew, Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Koh Ann Huat, Director of Procurement & Facilities Management, Mr Stamford Low, Director of Customer Service, Mr Teo Wee Seng, Director of Human Resource, and Mr Ivan Lim, Director of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations. Filling out the rest of the teams were the New Zealand legends, as well as Singapore’s national players.

In appreciation of the Members of Parliament’s participation, M1 will donate S$50,000 to the underprivileged children and youths-at-risk causes of its adopted charities.

Ms Jessica Tan, Member of Parliament, and President of Netball Singapore noted, “Corporate participation has steadily increased since the launch of the M1 Corporate Netball Challenge. It’s heartening to see that interest in Netball continues to grow and I’m pleased to see that so many have come out this weekend and test their skills in this sport against others.”

“As a long-term supporter of Singapore’s netball scene, we are heartened to see interest in the sport continue to grow, as demonstrated by the record turnout at this year’s M1 Corporate Netball Challenge, and we hope to work together with Netball Singapore to further strengthen interest in this sport,” said Mr P. Subramaniam, Chief Marketing Officer, M1.

During their visit to Singapore, Irene and Casey have also participated in various netball clinics in secondary schools across Singapore, sharing their tips and tricks with young, aspiring netball players.
